Pademba Road has a rich and varied architectural history. It is home to a variety of Krio board houses, many of which serve dual purposes as residences and storefronts. Krio houses are strongly tied to the history of the development of Freetown. Their architectural forms represent the ideas and attachments of generations of Krio people, and their historical significance is recognized by many Freetownians. This proposal hopes to help communities continue to acknowledge the history of Krio Houses as part of an expanded vision of heritage. With minor improvements and the use of conservation easements, Krio houses could be improved to encourage community engagement.
